Small Town 4th of July

Our little village, Corrales, New Mexico, still puts on a great, old-fashioned 4th of July parade. Here are some pictures from today's parade.

First, of course is the presentation of the colors.

There were lots of people just having fun.

Of course, the Boy Scouts were there.

No parade is complete without dogs.

And some more folks just having fun.

Lots and lots of kids, including a little girl sitting next to us who held her ears when the fire truck sirens went off.

No parade is complete without clowns.

There were a ton of antique cars.

There were fire trucks and bicyclists, including this woman who towed a small trailer with a cage holding two of her chickens.

There were llamas.

No agricultural community parade would be complete without tractors.

Most important for us were the horses of Corrales.

Finally, no parade that has horses can do without these incredible volunteers.

Betty and I had a ball. We're glad there are small towns and villages that still find it important to celebrate our country and the freedoms we have. We hope you all have a great Independence Day!

Today is July 4th and if your Birthday is today you share your day with: George Steinbrenner (New York Yankees owner), Gina Lollobridgida (Italian actress), Neil Simon (playwright - "The Odd Couple"), Ann Landers (advice columnist), Mitch Miller (bandleader), and Calvin Coolidge (30th US President).

Wonderful parade. I can't believe I almost forgot the day. I mean... that seems very unAmerican. I don't think that is even a word. :-)

Oooh! Thanks for sharing all the wonderful photos. The horse are the best part of te parade...oh! And the llamas, too! hehe

I love that you included the clean-up crew, too. hehe

Will you be in one of the parades with your own horses one day?

Corrales is such a very special small community. When we lived in Rio Rancho, we spent our summers at the community pool and unique library and beautiful little park.
We also have fond memories of the parades and many festivals Corrales is so well known for.

You are so blessed to live in such a unique and lovely place.

Twin,

We rode our horses in a parade last year and my horse is not a good parade horse. He gets to excited by being around all the other horses. So, we enjoyed just watching.

Dang, there's nothin' like a small-town New Mexico parade. Wish I could have been there. My burros and I (or at least I) aspire to be in parade someday. We've got a whole year to train for the next 4th of July. Don't be surprised if we show up!
