Watching the Kids Grow Up

This is a great time of the year around our house. We have a ton of quail and they have been having their babies over the last month. The first batch has gotten large enough that they can join their parents when they fly up to our courtyard wall and then hop down to eat sunflower seeds that fall from our feeder. They are still small enough to be cute.

A family decided to have their breakfast this morning in our courtyard. Here are a couple of pictures.

I adore birds in the wild. My husband keeps thistle out for the wild finches we have. They are so beautiful, bright yellow and black. We also have bluebird houses but this year we had a sparrow family get dibs on one of them. We also have barn swallows that eat mesquitos and fly around in the evening. Hummingbirds too. They are mean little things though!

Besides roadrunners, quail are my favorite bird species. The babies are unbelieveably cute.
