Happy Birthday Chris!

In August of 1971 I was in the Navy. My ship was coming back around the world from our second Vietnam deployment. On August 1, while we were still in the South Atlantic heading for a port call in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, my second son, Christopher Lee, was born in Jacksonville, Florida. I didn't see him until he was over two weeks old when we returned to our home port.

Chris has been a joy and a blessing to Betty and me. To celebrate his birthday today here are a few pictures from his life.

A tired Chris in his Donald Duck hat while we were at Disney World the very first year it opened while we were still in the Navy.

Me and Chris shortly after I got out of the Navy and headed to post-graduate school.

Chris as a young man in our house in Memphis, Tennessee.

Chris (lower) with his older brother Wade at Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio.

Chris playing a game. He and his brother are both big game players, a trait they definitely inherited from their mother and not me.

Neither of our sons are horse people, but Chris did go for a ride with us (that's Betty behind him) while we were in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

His mother made him a surprise gift of a quilt made out of Chris' old t-shirts from when he was a kid and a teen.

Chris, Tracy and their dog, Esme, on the swing of their second house in Martinsburg, Ohio. They call this house Venture House and use it for Christian retreats for churches, youth groups, and church staffs.

This is a picture of the four of us at their house in Mount Vernon, Ohio during a Christmas visit.

Chris is now a great father to his soon-to-be adopted 17 year old son, Javier Benavidez.

Chris, you're a good man, a good husband, and now a good father. Your mother and I are very, very proud of you. You have been and still are a blessing to us as well as many others.

Happy Birthday and much love from your Mom and Dad.

Today is August 1 and if today is your Birthday then you share your day with: Our great son, Chris (husband, father and all-around great guy), Tempest Bledsoe (actress - middle daughter on "The Cosby Show"), Adam Duritz (lead singer for "The Crows"), Jerry Garcia (singer - "The Grateful Dead"), Yves Saint Laurent (designer), Dom DeLuise (comedian), Herman Melville (author - "Moby Dick"), Francis Scott Key (composer - "National Anthem"), and William Clark (explorer - "Lewis and Clark").

Happy birthday, Chris! We'd love to meet you sometime. Congrats on Javier. We hear he's a neat young man.

I enjoyed the walk down memory lane even if they aren't my memories.

Go, Mansfield, OH--my birth place!

Dan, does that mean you will not be interested in playing games with us sometime in the near future? Disappointing. We have a hutch FULL of games!
