National Day of Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer. For those of you who read this blog who have horses, who have had horses, or who wish you had horses, we pray for you and your horses.

Heavenly Father, Creator of all things, we thank You for who You are and for all You have done.

You have given us many, many blessings - especially the blessing of your Son, Jesus Christ. Among these many blessings are these magnificent creatures we call horses. They are mighty in strength and soft in heart. They are swift as eagles when they fly, yet slow to be angry with us when we are dumb. You have created them with forgiveness as the essence of their souls.

Help us to be wise in our dealings with them, patient in our handling of them and consistent in all our actions with them. Help us to realize that they are always trying to do what they think we want them to do. Help us to look to our own shortcomings when things are not going well with them. For we have much to learn about ourselves by being with them.

We pray for every rider that You keep them safe in the saddle and on the ground. We pray for every child who looks up into the soft eyes of these creatures and sees only love. We pray for every horse that he and she will have plenty of hay to eat, enough room to run, companions to share their life with, and a safe and warm place to sleep every night.

Finally, when this life comes to an end for rider and horse, may they both know the love and mercy of Your presence in their lives.

For all this and so much more, we pray in Jesus' name.

Dan & Betty, Thank you for sharing this prayer. You know I feel the same about my two horses that you do about yours.
